Bonnie Vander Vegte
- Bonnie Vander Vegte is the president and director of A+ Tutoring Service,
Ltd., a substantial educational services company based in Woodbury,
Minnesota and serving school districts and private clients in Minnesota and
Illinois.
- A native of Iowa, Vander Vegte taught English and French at the secondary
school level for nearly 20 years before being sidelined by a serious auto
accident. Once recovered and interested in a career change, she became a
tutor with A+ and later, in 1992, purchased the company from its founder.
- After growing up in Pella, Iowa, Vander Vegte attended Northwestern College
in Orange City, Iowa, earning bachelor’s degrees in English and French. She
later pursued graduate studies in education at the University of Iowa and the
University of Minnesota.
- Active in professional organizations, Vander Vegte often speaks to community
associations and education groups.
Marilyn Aspen
- Serving as a vice president and operations manager for A+ Tutoring Service,
Marilyn Aspen was a teacher and library media specialist for several school
districts in both outstate Minnesota and the Twin Cities area. Her love of
learning and joy in sharing that with others convinced her to turn to tutoring
in the mid-1980s. She began working with A+ and in 1996 became a coowner
and offi ce manager. She plays a major role in supervising No Child
Left Behind programs in both Illinois and Minnesota.
- A native Minnesotan, Aspen graduated from Bemidji State College with
a degree in mathematics and minors in English and library media. Later,
she received a Master’s in Library Media from Minnesota State University-
Mankato.
Dr. Frank Aspen
- Dr. Frank Aspen is a vice president and chief financial officer of A+ Tutoring
Service. A physicist, Aspen had a 29-year career in product development
with 3M Company and Imation, focusing on the areas of photocopying,
solid state X-ray imaging, flexible solar cells and optical data storage. He
contributed nine patents in these areas.
- Raised on a farm near Fosston, Minnesota, Aspen began his college career as
an accounting major, but graduated summa cum laude with a double major
in mathematics and physics from Bemidji State University. He went on to
earn a Ph.D. in solid state physics from the University of Minnesota.
- Aspen joined A+ Tutoring Service in 1996 as a co-owner and assumed
financial management responsibilities, including accounting and bookkeeping.
