Reading Tutoring
Parent Letter
A+ Tutoring identifies these skills as critical for reading readiness:
- Analytical and critical thinking
- The ability to sort information
- Understanding a sequence
- Comprehending symbolism in language
Dear Parent,
Reading opens the door to writing and other aspects of self expression and is the foundation for a good education. When a child has difficulty in reading, challenges with word recognition and comprehension are usually at the root. Without an understanding of each building block of reading, added concepts become more and more difficult to comprehend. Frustration and finally avoidance set in as new concepts are introduced, eventually causing the student to turn away from the many educational opportunities.
A+ Tutoring works carefully with each student to complete class assignments and, in the process, discovers where reading and comprehension skills have not been mastered. The tutor presents training exercises to practice the new skills until the child gains the needed level of understanding. This training can range from elementary letter and sound recognition to more complex exercises such as word usage guidelines in an essay.
Our teaching goal is to help students to delight in their own skills and comprehension, and to inspire in them a desire to learn more. In pursuit of that end, A+ Tutoring does not offer gift rewards or trinkets for student accomplishments. The feelings produced by academic success are far more lasting, and so is the satisfaction that comes when students learn to use the mind in new ways.
We invite you to contact us for a free consultation on how we can assist in improving your child’s reading skills.
Sincerely,
